Piney Point Boat Fire

Lieutenant Fire Heather Bean, August 21

On Friday, August 19, 2017, at approximately 4:20 p.m., firefighters from SDVFDRS responded to a boat fire on Clarke Road, in Piney Point.

Firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes of arriving on scene.

No injuries were reported

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

SDVFDRS Ambulances Receive Maryland Seal of Excellence

On July 6, 2017 members of the Second District Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Inc. met with a Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) Region V representative for the inspection of Ambulances numbered 67, 68, and 69. Mutual Aid To Westmoreland County

On July 1, 2017 @ 8:34 AM Boat 6 along with Boat 5 were alerted for Mutual Aid to Westmoreland County for the Yacht Fire-Attached to a dock in Bonum Creek. Boat 5 arrived on scene first to discover the fire was out. Boat 6 arrived shortly after and loaded the boat with booms to contain the oil spill from the vessel that was on fire. It is with deep regret to announce the loss of Lucy Mae Hanson. A dedicated member of the Ladies Auxilairy for 61 years. Lucy joined the Mckay's Beach Volunteer Fire Department in 1953 with her mother. She has held every elected office of the auxiliary.
