By Vice President Michael (Mike) Roberts
February 16, 2024

At the monthly business meeting of the Second District VFD&RS held on March 8, 2023, the membership voted unanimously to dedicate the new Fire/EMS Station to James Gregory Adams in honor of his 59 years of service. At the same meeting, the membership voted unanimously to dedicate the new 2022 Ford Horton Ambulance to Joseph Earl “Fuzzy” Knott in honor of his 54 years of service.
On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the Second District VFD&RS officially dedicated their Fire/EMS Station to James Gregory Adams, and their new Ambulance 69 to Joseph Earl “Fuzzy” Knott.
The dedications were in remembrance of Mr. Adams’ 59 years of service, and Mr. Knott’s 54 years of service. Combined, these two incredibly selfless and dedicated members committed a total of 113 years to the Department.
Family members, special guests, and members of the Department attended.
The ceremony commenced with President Stauffer welcoming all in attendance, followed by a wonderful prayer by Chaplain Cindy Knott Bowes, daughter of the late Fuzzy Knott. Vice President Mike Roberts spoke for several minutes on the history and accomplishments of these outstanding men. Mr. Roberts closed out his remarks by extending a sincere and heartfelt “Thank You” to the families for sharing their loved ones with us for so many, wonderful years. Several family members, special guests, and Department members shared some memories, thanks, and a few humorous stories.
Attendees then moved to the foyer area of the station where Joan Adams, wife of the late Greg Adams, accompanied by her daughters, unveiled the wall mounted plaque, dedicating the Fire/EMS station in his name. Past President Blair Swann then presented the family with a plaque commemorating the occasion. St. Mary’s County Commissioner Eric Colvin then presented the family with a Proclamation from the County Commissioners.
The attendees then moved into the emergency medical bays, where Mrs. Pat Knott, wife of the late Fuzzy Knott, assisted by her daughters, unveiled the plaque mounted on the side of Ambulance 69, which dedicated that unit in his name. Past President Blair Swann then presented the family with a commemorative plaque. St. Mary’s County Commissioner Eric Colvin presented the family with a proclamation from the County Commissioners.
Attendees were then invited to participate in coffee and refreshments provided by the Auxiliary and the Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship.
Many thanks to all of the members who provided assistance in ensuring this event was a success.
