Swift action by the Second District Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad, Inc. and St. Mary's County Department of Public Works (DPW) contained a dumpster fire at the Valley Lee Transfer Station.
DPW crews used equipment to spread out the burning rubbish, allowing firefighters to extinguish the flames completely. This collaborative effort prevented the fire from escalating and ensured the safety of the community. The fire was under control in minutes and fire crews remained on scene to keep the smoldering debris in check until DPW arrived. Shortly after the trash was spread and accessible, the fire was completely extinguished and fire units returned to service. The scene was turned over to SMC DPW.
