On Saturday, February 1, 2025, Jason Alvey, a Junior Member, took part in a SkillsUSA EMS Skills competition which was hosted by the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department. Nine teams from St. Mary's, Charles, and Calvert counties participated in a multievent competition that judged the competitors on multiple different categories. Jason had to take part in a business-style interview, take a written test, and perform three EMS skills with a partner. The skills that were evaluated were: bent elbow trauma scenario, treatment of a narcotics overdose patient, and adult CPR. Although Jason and his partner did not ultimately advance to the next round, a great amount of work and preparation went into this event. We would like to congratulate Jason on being selected to participate in the competition and encourage him to continue to learn, grow, and advance his EMT skills!
