At 1:06 AM on March 8, units from Second District, along with units from Bay District, NDW, Leonardtown, and Seventh District, responded for the Structure Fire - Residential in Drayden. E-61 and Chief 6 arrived simultaneously to find nothing evident from all sides of the home. Crews spoke with the resident who informed them that there was a chimney fire in the rear bedroom and that he had smothered the flames with a nearby fire extinguisher. Units investigated the home with thermal imaging cameras to ensure there was no extension in the walls or attic space. Finding none the assignment was reduced. E-61 cleared the fire box of the wood stove and cooled the embers that were removed. Early action and having a charged fire extinguisher in the home could quite possibly have averted catastrophe. Units cleaned up and returned to service shortly after.
