Firefighter II is an additional training course required for all senior members involved in the firefighting services of the department. The course is 66 hours in length, and includes lecture, discussion, online activities and team focused practical exercises. Instructors are Maryland State Certified Emergency Services Instructors from the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, University of Maryland, headquartered in College Park, MD. Major topics include fire department organization; Incident command; building construction; ventilation; water distribution systems; hose streams; fixed fire protection systems; fire prevention; fire inspection pre-planning; ladders; and rescue procedures.
